Edwin and Lillie Childs Family

Edwin Levi Childs and Lillie Conrad Childs lived north of Detroit, Michigan, and raised their family on a farm. They had nine children, two girls and seven boys, and oldest to youngest, their names were, Art, Larry, Florence, Roy, Clarence, Beatrice, Don, Owen, and Frederick.

During the 19th Century, land in Michigan was abundant, affordable, and had great farming quality. The land was very attractive to farmers east of Michigan because during this time period it was becoming more expensive to farm and live in the east due to increasing population.Edwin and Lillie both came from families that settled in the area to take advantage of the opportunity to work and own land in Michigan. The Childs family grew crops such as sugar beets and barley. The farm was located north of Cass City, Michigan among other farms .

Lillie Conrad is a descendant of a strong German family who settled in Michigan. German settlements were common in the area because of a large German farmer recruitment effort by the state of Michigan to establish the economy for the state.
